dsTest, Developing Solutions, Lg Interface, Location Services, LCS Testing

dsTest supports both server emulation and client simulation for the Mobile Application Part (MAP)  Lg Interface. Test Serving Gateway Support Nodes (SGSNs)  in your UMTS network with our our Gateway Mobility Location Center (GMLC) emulator. Use the Lg Interface application on our SGSN simulator node to test the capacity and performance of a GMLC server.

Location based services, such as Emergency Services, rely upon LCS. The Lg Interface enable LCS in the GPRS/UMTS to provide support for specialized mobile location services for operators, subscribers, and third party service providers. LCS are also used to optimize network performance and enhance network self-optimization. With Lg and other dsTest LCS interface applications, you can verify your end-to-end LCS solution.

dsTest provides more tools for Location Services compliance testing.

For more information regarding how to use dsTest for MAP functional and compliance testing, see our page on Conformance Testing. Customize your MAP/TCAP messages using our SmartTCAP feature.

The Lg Interface application implements the following Mobile Application Services:

  • MAP-Provide-Subscriber-Location, used by a GMLC to request the location and optionally, velocity, of a target UE;
  • MAP-Subscriber-Location-Report – used by a SGSN to provide the location of a target UE to a GMLC..

A complete set of events that can be generated with the Lg interface application can be found here. Use our MAP Dictionary to assist in setting up and interpreting MAP test scenarios.

SGSN Testing (Server Emulation)

The server emulator initiates the appropriate service such as ProvideSubscriberLocation when indicated, eliminating the need to dedicate a production server to labdsTest, Developing Solutions, Lg Interface, LCS Testing, Location Services, GMLC Testing, SGSN Testing activities. You can manually trigger server-initiated procedures by executing a test event chain with a run-time command or during an automated test. Initiate Subscriber location requests from the GMLC and verify that the SGSN retrieves the appropriate information from the UTRAN and responds with the correctly formatted location information (current or last known) of the requested subscriber.

One server emulator can support any mixture of interfaces, up to 1000 client connections. Using concurrent interfaces also enables interaction between the interfaces.

GMLC Testing (Client Simulation)

The Lg Interface application simulates an SGSN’s Lg interface to determine the impact of new GMLC features and standards before they are deployed in a network. Initiate a subscriber location report from the SGSN, verify that the GMLC acknowledges the message from the SGSN, correctly processes the information, and transfers the correct information to your external LCS client. The Lg Interface application also allows you to validate GMLC performance and capacity in a realistic network environment, replicating the deployment configuration.

Multiple SGSN nodes can be instantiated on a single server, each with scalable subscriber loads and transaction rates. In this mode, up to 1000 independent SGSN nodes may be simultaneously running and SGSN-SGSN mobility may be simulated. The nodes are fully independent and their subscriber configurations may be independent, overlap, or  be duplicated.

Operational Measurements

dsTest provides rich sets of measurements that include but are not limited to:

  • Transaction and transport layer attempts, successes, and failures
  • Transaction duration, transactions-per-second, and round-trip delay
  • Message and byte counters
  • Errors encountered and error indications received in messages

See our Online Help for MAP measurements, TCAP measurements, SCCP measurements, M3UA measurements, and SCTP measurements.
