McKinney, TX (October 23, 2012) – Scaling up an LTE core network has been a challenge for operators, in particular the Diameter signaling load generated by user management, dynamic policy, and charging.  Operators and vendors are preparing their networks and networks elements for the extremely high volume of Diameter signaling traffic that is expected in the next few years.

Network elements such as the PCRF, OCS, and HSS, along with the DRA, need to be prepared for this expected traffic volume.  The HSS and PCRF have the difficult task of maintaining state of the subscribers, one of the most valuable resources for a network operator.  Charging systems such as the OCS also begin to see high volumes as more LTE elements come online.  Previously established  performance and capacity expectations quickly become obsolete.

Part of the preparation is devising reasonable high availability and load balancing schemes for the networks and the nodes that make up the networks.

High availability schemes can take many forms, including active/standby, load balancing, functional or geographical redundancy, hot backups, and combinations of these schemes.  Each scheme has its own advantages and disadvantages, including cost of implementing.  Network operators and vendors will choose the combination of capabilities that best matches their requirements, architectures, and network growth expectations.

Regardless of the network architecture, dsTest® has simplified the testing if the Diameter core signaling network.

dsTest allows you to:

  • Test and evaluate high availability and failover schemes;
  • Test and evaluate load balancing scenarios;
  • Simulate complex real world network scenarios;
  • Evaluate network nodes, and the reaction of the network, before the nodes are placed into service;
  • Simulate both Diameter servers and clients;
  • Test several interfaces at the same time.

Isolate individual nodes or test them as a system.  dsTest allows you to explore the performance boundaries of all of your core network nodes.  You can have confidence that the network or network element you are building supports the traffic conditions you expect.  Avoid customer churn and bad press caused by network outages that could have been identified in the lab prior to deployment.

About dsTest®

Wireless Service Providers and Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEM) rely on Developing Solutions’ dsTest to test capacity and reliability of their network devices and architectures.

dsTest offers a comprehensive set of high performance testing solutions for the 3G and 4G core network.  A single dsTest platform scales to support thousands of network connections, hundreds of million subscribers, and hundreds of thousands of transactions per second from a single server.
