dsTest® supports both server emulation and client simulation for the Gd interface. Test SGSN Gd interfaces in UMTS networks with our Gateway Message Service Center (GMSC) Emulator or use our emulator to test the Gd interface of an IP-CAN Short Message Gateway (IP-SM-GW). Use the Gd Interface application to simulate an SGSN or an IP-SM-GW generating MO short messages towards an IWMSC.
A rich set of operational measurements is collected at specified intervals and stored in a SQLite database on the dsTest server. Real-time measurements may be retrieved through our dsClient™ CLI interface or graphed via our dsClient GUI interface.
Implementation
The Gd interface application implements the following 3GPP Mobile Application services:
- Forward MO Short Message
- Forward MT Short Message
Server Emulation
The GMSC Emulator incorporates IWMSC and SC functionality and initiates the appropriate procedure when receiving an MO short message, eliminating the need to dedicate a production server to lab activities. You can initiate forwarding of MT short messages by executing a test event chain with a run-time command or during an automated test.

Client Simulation
The Gd Interface application can be used to simulate an SGSN’s or IP-SM-GW’s Gd interface to determine the SMS processing capacity and performance of a GMSC. The Gd Interface application allows users to validate GMSC performance and capacity in a realistic network environment, replicating the deployment
configuration.
Execute timed chains of test events with a run-time command or during an automated test to send messages to subscribers that may or may not be reachable, simulating real-world subscriber activity
Multiple SGSN emulators* can be instantiated on a single server, each with scalable subscriber loads and transaction rates. In this mode, up to 1000 independent SGSN nodes or IP-SM-GW nodes may be simultaneously simulated. The nodes are fully independent and their subscriber configurations may also be independent, may overlap, or may be duplicated.
* The IP-SM-GW Gd interface has the appearance of an SGSN.
